As part of this assignment, I used Picasso's visual language to reinterpret Charles I in Three Positions, an oil painting by Anthony van Dyck. I gave the figures a Picasso-esque cubist makeover while keeping to van Dyck's initial arrangement of three stances. Inspired by Picasso's work, I researched and borrowed design concepts including abstracted features, expressive line textures, and shattered facial planes. Like him, you may recognize his work from his Analytic and Synthetic Cubism eras in the muted earth tones, pastel blues, and deep primaries that I used. This digitally drawn work of art purposefully combines the styles of two legendary artists.
